Mantis Project: A DIY CNC within 150 euros

Intro

This project aims to enable you to make a CNC table at an affordable price. We expect to offer kits that will be assembled at a workshop in a restricted time (2 or 3 evenings) with stakeholders.

The complex machining (axes, screw, wood cut to the CNC) will be realized before this that will focus on assembling the machine, testing and startup so that the premium on educational technology.

We plan to proceed as follows :

  • Réétude Mantis to suit the suppliers, units and European expectations
  • Realization of a functional prototype, and development
  • Demonstrations of the machine at parties in various public places DIY (Medialabs, artist collectives, etc. ..), during which we will take registrations for the Workshop Mantis
  • Planification du workshop,
  • Raw material purchases and construction kits
  • Workshop : probably early fourth quarter 2012

The post doc will be completed as and measuring project progress.

Why re-study?

Mantis had originally been developed to be done with a saw and a drill press. Designed the united states, avezc U.S. components (in inches!!) this machine is impractical in the state Europe.Il should therefore reconsider the, and adapt certain points which seem complex or unfeasible in the duration of the workshop :

  • Clip “DIY” Mantis on the original, which will be replaced by a mini drill
  • Attaching the bronze bearings, which are glued to the two-component resin of the original Mantis. We réétudierons a fastening system is screwed, is held by clamping, to avoid the drying time of collages.
  • Fixing on the frame axes corrected, stuck on the original Mantis. We réétudierons a fastening system is screwed, is held by clamping, to avoid the drying time of collages.
  • Machining dimensions of the table a little bit of the original Mantis (7” X 12”, 107mm X 222mm or), likely to be extended to 12” X 12” (222mm X 222mm).
  • DIY Electronics long to realize that a more expensive e card Chinese herbal TB6560
  • System optimization of the lead screw nut, Backlash to limit the (game);

Costing

Note that we would have a cost of 150 euros excluding electronic. We have built here costs with electronics to be fairer.

Hello hello Jacques Jean-Philippe I found another supplier of bronze bushings on France not too expensive and has other dimensions as the one you http://www.promeca.com/bague-bronze-autolubrifiante-p261-fr.html
Otherwise when you meet in alez Kawenga… I invite though I looked for work in different methods ie blender will do tests export measures to validate.

    Hello.
I am very interested in buying one of your CNC.
There exists a complete kit ?

    Contact me by mail

  3. JmM92 says:

In the table the solution 1, I think the link to the ball nuts are wrong.
Indeed, sends it to a site of ball, This seems very different. => http://www.1001roulements.com/roulement-a-billes-6201-2rs-2-joints-etanches.html

Finally, a question running through my head (without finding out!):
What shaft diameter should I consider for machine about an A4 page ?
I am considering the 16mm; write a review?

    Thank you in advance!
